He's up to his chest in water, face gone gold, chain heavy on the neck. Hands come in from every side. One holds a dollar bill. One holds a bowl of gold. One pulls at the chain. Not a single one reaches for him.

That's what it looks like when it works out. Everybody wants in. Nobody asks who's under the mask.

Painted digitally, but built like oil: soft in the water, hard on the metal. The frame is different work altogether, thick loops of blue and gold laid on with a heavy brush, straight over the edge of the picture. Two tools, two hands. That was on purpose.

Look at the mask and you'll find THE SCALE cut into the gold.
